Getting Ready

Getting Ready

Iam working feverishly to complete as many of my WIPs before Friday as possible. As many people knoe, the Ravellenic Games have their mass cast-on at that time.

So far, I have only completed Arsinoe's Five Hour Baby Sweater. I am 9 rounds away from completing the Heirloom Baby Blanket. I also neeed to finish my son's basic socks.

This weekend the kids and I went looking for craft and cooking supplies. We found some fabric for a nursing cover and buttons for Adianna' sweater which will be my Ravellenic project. I also picked up some yarn to make a sweater for my husband. I chose acrylic yarn because he is dangerous with wool.

Well, that's it for now. I plan to keep you updated during the Games on my progress.

Here is a picture of Arsinoe in her sweater to hold your interest.

Scenes From a Stash

Scenes from a stash

Hope everyone had a great weekend. I decided that since little Arsinoe still does not have a blanket, she should at least have a sweater. I ask you to join me in ignoring the fact that it is July and we live in the south.

The sweater that I chose was "The Five Hour Baby Sweater". I am now well into hour 27 and the sweater is not finished. Clearly the person who named this pattern never tried to knit it while nursing, changing, bathing and, snuggling with it's intended recipient. Arsinoe is patient about this and willing to wait for her sweater.

In my last post I mentioned some scenes from the stash and here are just a few:

This is a roving that I bought more than one year ago. I still don't know how to spin, so I am donating this as a prize for The Ravellenic Games.

This yarny goodness was a gift from my mom's boss. She found it at a yard sale. The yarn is From Little Bo Peep Spinning Mill in Australia. I love this yarn but apparently the company no longer exists. This is bad because I want to use this for an Aran sweater for my husband and I'm pretty sure that this is not enough yarn.

and finally....

This is my current profile picture. The peach on top is an Heirloom crocheted baby blanket. The pattern is free on Ravelry. Underneath is a knitted baby blanket in Knit Picks Stroll Fingering sock yarn. Both are for Arsinoe, both are WIPs. To keep her warm, I sewed a small quilt for her. My Granny also sent three hand-sewn baby blankets  for her which she loves.

Well, back to the sweater. In case you thought that I've taken complete leave of my senses, I'm using cotton yarn.

Welcome!

Hello and welcome to my first entry on my blog. I am starting this as a bit of a craft journal. My hope is that this blog will keep me focused on finishing my fiber projects.

I learned how to sew from my grandmother when I was around 4 or 5 years old. My cousins and I used to make doll clothes from our mis-matched or worn  out socks. I pestered my aunt Juanita to teach me the basics of crochet when I was 9 years old. Then I taught myself to knit from a book in my teens.

I worked mostly in crochet until my second pregnancy. It was during this time that our family moved to North Carolina from south Florida. I started and finished a pullover sweater for my daughter during that time and also crocheted a baby blanket as well as most of our gifts for that year.

After I returned to work I mostly sewed scrub tops and quilts for our family. Then I rediscovered knitting at a church event that I accompanied my patient to. After that I was hooked again. I have kept multiple projects on the needles and hooks ever since.

My current WIPs include several baby blankets for my three month old daughter and a pair of socks for my son . I will be casting on a sweater for my nine year old daughter as my Ravellenic Games project. All this and I still have a cross stitch baby blanket and four cross stitch bibs to finish.

That's all for today. Next time I will show a few scenes from my stash.

Best Wishes
Celeste Nichelle
